Historically, coffee was discovered by a goat herder named Kaldi, whose goats became energetic after eating coffee cherries, leading to the spread of coffee culture.

Ethiopian coffee is highly celebrated as the original authentic Arabica with its variety from region to region. The most popular Ethiopian varieties include Yirgacheffe, Sidama, Limu, Harar and Guji.
